Hypnotherapy and Emotional Freedom Technique

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy involves the application of hypnotic techniques to the deeply relaxed mind in order to bring about therapeutic changes. If the suggestions made are recognised as being for your benefit, the subconscious mind will accept them to become a part of the way you see things in the future and how you feel and react. Hypnotherapy is about placing yourself in control.

With which problems can it help?

Phobias. Hypnotherapy is renowned as being effective in the treatment of irrational fears (e.g. spiders, needles  (or even feathers) which can inhibit your activities.

Negative thoughts and ideas. Low self-esteem or obsessive thoughts about someone or something. Hypnotherapy can help to change such ideas and view things from a different perspective.

Feelings. Panic attacks, anxiety, jealousy or guilt. These can be addresses more specifically than can a drug and without harmful side-effects.

Habits. People sometimes find themselves in the grip of a habit or behaviour pattern that feels as if it is stronger than they are. Such habits range from hair-twiddling and nail-biting to smoking and more deep-seated compulsions.

Smoking. For many smokers, the habit is deeply entrenched in the subconscious mind. This is why the professional medical bodies recognise that Hypnotherapy is the most successful method of giving up. Your Therapist cannot simply wave a magic wand. A smoker has to want to give up and needs some willpower too. One session lasting 1.5 hours may be all that is required to quit smoking.

Other uses. These include: IBS, Phobias, Weight Control, Stress Management, Confidence-building, Performance enhancement, Emotional problems, Ulcerative Colitis, Incontinence, Insomnia and Grief.

Course of treatment / fees.

To Quit Smoking needs one session whilst phobias need three sessions of an hour.          Weight control and alcohol abuse may require a commitment to more sessions.

Fees: £50 an hour and £180 to Quit Smoking (Jan 2009).

 EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUE (EFT)

EFT is a comparatively new discovery which is based on the Client tapping on certain points on the meridian lines.  These lines are well-known to Acupuncturists, Reflexologists and practitioners of Shiatsu.

Traumatic memories interrupt, or block, the normal flow of Chi (energy) resulting in symptoms of anxiety, depression and phobic responses.  EFT is often described as "acupuncture without needles".

By instructing the Client on how to tap on certain precise meridian points and repeating affirmations, these blockages are speedily cleared and normal energy flows are restored.

This "tapping" technique is similar to that successfully used by Paul McKenna, and is being adopted by increasing numbers of Hypnotherapists in their work as an additional technique to apply.

The HHA Hypnotherapist, David Devere, is qualified to Levels 1, 2 and Matrix Reimprinting, and uses EFT alongside Hypnotherapy.
